Stacking the Shelves #30

Welcome to Stacking The Shelves! Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga Reviews and is a meme to share those books, both print and e-book, that have been added to your shelves in the last week/s.

Hope everyone had a great Mother's Day last week.  Mine was great my family spoiled me with a book voucher which I had a lot of fun spending.  That and the library books I picked up made it a pretty good week which then improed even further when i was notified I had won a giveaway I entered a couple of weeks ago.  That book arrived this morning and is a late edition to this post :-)

Reading and blog wise, thanks to a busy RL, I didn't get as much reading done as I wanted so my City of Fae review has been delayed till next week but I did put up my review of Cold Burn of Magic by Jennifer Estep.  A fun read and you can check out the review here

On the reading list this week is to finish of City of Fae by Pippa Da Costa, start on Nowhere but here by Katie Mcgarry and maybe squeeze in Angelfall by Susan EE along with one of my new purchases further down the page.

What is on your reading list this week?

WON - Print book  - with thanks to Speculating on Spec Fic & Harper Collins Australia

On Wednesday I was notified that i had won this book in awesome giveaway from Shaheen @ Speculating on Spec Fiction.  As this has been a book at the top of my list of books to buy, I was extremely excited.  Even better was how quick it was to arrive as I picked it up from the post office this morning!

I won't be able to read it until after June 1 as I have included it in my Goodreads Aussie Readers Winter Challenge which runs over June, July and August but i am pretty sure once June hits, it will be one of my first reads :-)

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

Set in a terrifyingly brutal Rome-like world, An Ember in the Ashes is an epic fantasy debut about an orphan fighting for her family and a soldier fighting for his freedom. It's a story that's literally burning to be told. LAIA is a Scholar living under the iron-fisted rule of the Martial Empire. When her brother is arrested for treason, Laia goes undercover as a slave at the empire's greatest military academy in exchange for assistance from rebel Scholars who claim that they will help to save her brother from execution. ELIAS is the academy's finest soldier-- and secretly, its most unwilling. Elias is considering deserting the military, but before he can, he's ordered to participate in a ruthless contest to choose the next Martial emperor. When Laia and Elias's paths cross at the academy, they find that their destinies are more intertwined than either could have imagined and that their choices will change the future of the empire itself. Vow your blood and body to the empire. Keep your heart for yourself.

Purchased/Gifted- Print Books

For my Mother's Day last week, my lovely partner and daughter gave me a $50 Dymocks gift card.  It's nice to know my family knows me so well :-)

Even better, was I then got to go out and spend it on Monday.  Unfortunately the two top books on my very long lists of books to buy were not available but I managed to pick up these lovelies instead, both of which I still desperately want to read.

As I still had a little money left, I ventured in to the city to the big Dymocks last night however unfortunately the books I wanted weren't there either however some books I was buying for someone for a present so I used the remainder of the voucher for that and used the money I had budgeted to buy the present to instead order the books I wanted.

Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen

Peyton, Sydney's charismatic older brother, has always been the star of the family, receiving the lion's share of their parents' attention and—lately—concern. When Peyton's increasingly reckless behavior culminates in an accident, a drunk driving conviction, and a jail sentence, Sydney is cast adrift, searching for her place in the family and the world. When everyone else is so worried about Peyton, is she the only one concerned about the victim of the accident?

Enter the Chathams, a warm, chaotic family who run a pizza parlor, play bluegrass on weekends, and pitch in to care for their mother, who has multiple sclerosis. Here Sydney experiences unquestioning acceptance. And here she meets Mac, gentle, watchful, and protective, who makes Sydney feel seen, really seen, for the first time.

The uber-popular Sarah Dessen explores her signature themes of family, self-discovery, and change in her twelfth novel, sure to delight her legions of fans.

The Girl at Midnight (The Girl at Midnight) by Melissa Grey

Beneath the streets of New York City live the Avicen, an ancient race of people with feathers for hair and magic running through their veins. Age-old enchantments keep them hidden from humans. All but one. Echo is a runaway pickpocket who survives by selling stolen treasures on the black market, and the Avicen are the only family she's ever known.

Echo is clever and daring, and at times she can be brash, but above all else she's fiercely loyal. So when a centuries-old war crests on the borders of her home, she decides it's time to act.

Legend has it that there is a way to end the conflict once and for all: find the Firebird, a mythical entity believed to possess power the likes of which the world has never seen. It will be no easy task, but if life as a thief has taught Echo anything, it's how to hunt down what she wants . . . and how to take it.

But some jobs aren't as straightforward as they seem. And this one might just set the world on fire.
