The Artisans
They say death can be beautiful. But after the death of her mother, seventeen-year-old RAVEN WEATHERSBY gives up her dream of becoming a fashion designer, barely surviving life in the South Carolina lowlands.
To make ends meet, Raven works after school as a seamstress creating stunning works of fashion that often rival the great names of the day.
Instead of making things easier on the high school senior, her stepdad's drinking leads to a run in with the highly reclusive heir to the Maddox family fortune, Gideon Maddox.
But Raven's stepdad's drying out and in no condition to attend the meeting with Maddox. So Raven volunteers to take his place and offers to repay the debt in order to keep the only father she's ever known out of jail, or worse.
Gideon Maddox agrees, outlining an outrageous demand: Raven must live in his home for a year while she designs for Maddox Industries' clothing line, signing over her creative rights.
Her handsome young captor is arrogant and infuriating to the nth degree, and Raven can't imagine working for him, let alone sharing the same space for more than five minutes.
But nothing is ever as it seems. Is Gideon Maddox the monster the world believes him to be? And can he stand to let the young seamstress see him as he really is?
The Artisans is a delectably rich, layered and dark YA Southern Gothic inspired by Jeanne Marie Leprince de Beaumont's classic Beauty and the Beast.
"The Artisans has all the elements I love - spooky intrigue, strong friendships, and a romantic tension to be savored." ~ Wendy Higgins, New York Times bestselling author of the Sweet Evil trilogy.

Julie Reece
Born in Ohio, I lived next to my grandfather’s horse farm until the fourth grade. Summers were about riding, fishing and make-believe, while winter brought sledding and ice-skating on frozen ponds. Most of life was magical, but not all.
I struggled with multiple learning disabilities, did not excel in school. I spent much of my time looking out windows and daydreaming. In the fourth grade (with the help of one very nice teacher) I fought dyslexia for my right to read, like a prince fights a dragon in order to free the princess locked in a tower, and I won.
Afterwards, I read like a fiend. I invented stories where I could be the princess… or a gifted heroine from another world who kicked bad guy butt to win the heart of a charismatic hero. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that? Later, I moved to Florida where I continued to fantasize about superpowers and monsters, fabricating stories (my mother called it lying) and sharing them with my friends.
Then I thought I’d write one down…
Hooked, I’ve been writing ever since. I write historical, contemporary, urban fantasy, adventure, and young adult romances. I love strong heroines, sweeping tales of mystery and epic adventure… which must include a really hot guy. My writing is proof you can work hard to overcome any obstacle. Don’t give up. I say, if you write, write on!

Waiting on Wednesday #6 Fool's Assassin by Robin Hobb

Welcome to Waiting on Wednesday!  Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly featured hosted by Breaking the Spine to spotlight the not yet released books that I wish were in my hot little hands right now.

This week I am waiting on the first book of Robin Hobb's newest trilogy, Fool's Assassin. Having read and loved both the Farseer and Tawny Man series, and after waiting nearly 12 years, I can't wait to read about these characters again. Due out in Australia on 1st September 2014, I already have this on pre-order and cannot wait to receive it :-)

Tom Badgerlock has been living peaceably in the manor house at Withywoods with his beloved wife Molly these many years, the estate a reward to his family for loyal service to the crown.

But behind the facade of respectable middle-age lies a turbulent and violent past. For Tom Badgerlock is actually FitzChivalry Farseer, bastard scion of the Farseer line, convicted user of Beast-magic, and assassin. A man who has risked much for his king and lost more…

On a shelf in his den sits a triptych carved in memory stone of a man, a wolf and a fool. Once, these three were inseparable friends: Fitz, Nighteyes and the Fool. But one is long dead, and one long-missing.

Then one Winterfest night a messenger arrives to seek out Fitz, but mysteriously disappears, leaving nothing but a blood-trail. What was the message? Who was the sender? And what has happened to the messenger?

Suddenly Fitz's violent old life erupts into the peace of his new world, and nothing and no one is safe.

The sun exploded on On April 18, 2112 in a Class X solar storm the likes of which humankind had never seen.
They had exactly nineteen minutes to decide what to do next.
They had nineteen minutes until a geomagnetic wave washed over the Earth, frying every electrical device created by humans, blacking out entire continents, and every satellite in their sky.
Nineteen minutes to say goodbye to the world they knew, forever, and to prepare for a new Earth, a new Sun.

Generations after solar storms destroyed nearly all human technology on Earth, humans reverted to a middle ages-like existence, books are burned as heresy, and all knowledge of the remaining technology is kept hidden by a privileged few called the Reticents.
Alana, a disfigured slave girl, and Recks, a traveling minstrel and sometimes-thief, join forces to bring knowledge and books back to the human race. But when Alana is chosen against her will to be the Vessel, the living repository for all human knowledge, she must find the strength to be what the world needs even if it's the last thing she wants.

Chapter-by-Chapter-header---About-the-Author

Lisa T. Cresswell

Lisa, like most writers, began scribbling silly notes, stories, and poems at a very young age. Born in North Carolina, the South proved fertile ground to her imagination with its beautiful white sand beaches and red earth. In fifth grade, she wrote, directed and starred in a play "The Queen of the Nile" at school, despite the fact that she is decidedly un-Egyptian looking. Perhaps that's why she went on to become a real life archaeologist?
Unexpectedly transplanted to Idaho as a teenager, Lisa learned to love the desert and the wide open skies out West. This is where her interest in cultures, both ancient and living, really took root, and she became a Great Basin archaeologist. However, the itch to write never did leave for long. Her first books became the middle grade fantasy trilogy, The Storyteller Series. Her first traditionally published work, Hush Puppy, is now available from Featherweight Press.
Lisa still lives in Idaho with her family and a menagerie of furry critters that includes way too many llamas!

Blog Tour Stop & Give away: The Teen Wytche Saga by Ariella Moon

Welcome to day's stop on the The Teen Wytche Saga by Ariella Moon Blog Tour hosted by I am a Reader, not a writer. Today's stop is a review of books 1 and 2 in the saga plus an except from book 3. There is also a great giveaway to enter where you could win a $25 Amazon gift card. Read on and I hope you enjoy this stop
Book 1: Spell Check Review !
I was a little bit worried to start off with this story as I wondered if maybe the story was a little too young for me.  The good news is I was wrong

Evie is still recovering from the death of her father overseas and this has strained her relationship with the boy she has had a crush on since elementary school. Enter Evie's new best friend, with no idea of her crush and determined to perform a love spell to attract Evie's crush and a spellbook with a mind of its own.

This story is as much about Evie finding herself as it is a book about magic. I loved the relationship she had with her mother and the way her relationship ebbed and flowed with crush Jordan, best friend Parvani and new friend Salem.

All in all, this was a fun story. The characters were likeable and the story moved a long well. This is one of those stories that leaves you with a really fee good vibe, making you want to continue reading the series. This was what I liked most about it.

I give this story 3 1/2 stars!

5 Reasons Evie O’Reilly hopes magic isn’t real:

1. Evie’s best friend Parvani Hyde-Smith plans to cast a binding love spell on Jordan, Evie’s secret crush.

2. Parvani begs Evie to help her cast the spell.

3. Everything goes wrong when Parvani’s harmless-looking Teen Wytche paperback morphs into a brimstone-hissing grimoire.

4. Desperate to stop Parvani, Evie must risk hex hives and even befriend Salem, the school goth.

5. If magic is real, and Evie can’t stop Parvani, then she’ll lose Jordan. The wrongful magic will do more than break Evie’s heart. It will destroy them all.

Book 2: Spell Struck Review
I enjoyed this instalment even more than I enjoyed Spellcheck. I think partly because it started right after Spell Check finished and most of the main characters were already familiar.

I flew through this instalment finishing it in just a couple of sittings. The story itself was interesting and the characters were likeable particularly Salem and Aidan. I found the characters quite authentic to their age and feelings in the way they related to events

I liked the way Ms Moon dealt with the issue of depression and attempted suicide melding the serious into the story line without detracting from other elements but at the same time treating it with the care it deserves.

Again I felt the authenticity of the characters as they dealt with certain issues and older characters. Ms Moon does a great job creating characters than you genuinely feel something for which makes you feel the story along with the characters.

In this story, both characters had already accepted that magic was real and I felt this helped the story as the characters were more likely to accept the things that happened and this moved the story line along well.

once again another story that leaves you with a feel good vibe.

I give this 3 3/4 stars :-)

What if the one person who saw through your lies and loved you, harbored a secret that could cost you everything?

When goth outcast Salem Miller casts a love spell on Halloween night, she asks for a boy who is handsome, magical, and artistic. She doesn’t count on Fate sending Aidan Cooper.

As a child, Aidan thought he was being rescued, not abducted. Now fifteen and homeless, he realizes he was taken because of his Gypsy blood. His kidnappers believe he’ll lead them to the Grey Grimoire, a valuable gypsy spell book. Madness. The book doesn’t even exist.

Or does it?

Salem is charged with fixing a half-destroyed spell book, her last hope for saving her sister. Amy attempted suicide and the meds aren’t helping. Maybe a powerful Get Well Spell will cure her.

Aidan’s kidnappers will kill to attain the Grey Grimoire. But if he destroys it, Salem will hate him. Either way, he loses. Again.

Book 3: Spell Fire Excerpt:
I paused beneath the fern‑painted ceiling fan and scanned the wall menu. I wasn't sure what I was looking for, but a weird craving fueled my search.
The dragon exerted pressure between my shoulder blades, prompting me. "A Scorpion's Nest smoothie."
Morningstar leaned over the high counter and gave me a once‐over. "You feeling okay?"
I licked my lips. "Absolutely." I had never tasted an orange juice, vanilla ice cream, and peanut butter combo, but I slapped the countertop and said, "I'm fine. Hit me."
Morningstar tilted her head to one side and studied me.
Oh — crap. Maybe I'm dragon drunk.

Blog Tour Stop & Giveaway : Review of A Slither of Hope by Lisa M Basso

http://www.chapter-by-chapter.com/tour-schedule-a-slither-of-hope-by-lisa-m-basso-presented-by-month9books/

Welcome to day's stop on the A Slither of Hope (Angel Sight #2)by Lisa M Basso Blog Tour presented by Month9Books and hosted by Chapter by Chapter.  Today's stop is a review as well as a chance to enter the great giveaway that is being run throughout this tour.

Wow! I have just finished turning the last page and what a place to finish. I think I had to check a couple of times that there wasn't more pages.

Like book 1, in the series, A Shimmer of Angels, this did not really go where I expected it to. This is a good thing as having read a number of stories about angels, it is nice to read a story where things don't necessarily go where you expect.

I liked that this instalment showed us Kade's point of view in parts as well as Rayna's as it gave us a better picture of the story as it unfolded.

When we catch up with Rayna and Kade at the beginning of this book, a few weeks have passed since the events at the end of book 1 and we find that while the world has continued to turn for the rest of the world, Rayna is in something of a holding pattern, granted one holding a new identity but she is still no closer than to anything that can help with the situation that brought her to the attention of the angels and fallen, her family, SS Crazy and the police.

While, Rayna's life may be in a holding pattern, this story certainly wasn't. Right away we are hit surprise after surprise as Rayna's attempts to try and get her life back and protect those that she loves. The more I read of this story, the more I got into it and it felt like i read the back half of the story in the blink of an eye, and as mentioned above, shocked when I got to the end and had no more to read. I will be in on tenterhooks until book 3 comes out.

I also love Rayna and Kade's chemistry together. I have also felt it much more than the chemistry between Rayna and Cam and in this story we get to see more of the chemistry between all three and it is fun to watch!

One of the best parts of this story is that we get more information. We learn more about the angels, more about the fallen, more about Ray's family. This all fits together nicely in the story and is nicely paced so that it adds to the enjoyment and construction of the over all story. This, along the with the combination of both expected and unexpected developments lends itself to more enjoyable than expected story.

I give this story 3 1/2 stars!
