Robb, better known as the bestselling author Nora Roberts. In the late 21st century, on the streets of New York City, a street sleeper is found murdered, his diseased heart removed with surgical precision. His death would typically drop to the bottom of a list of senseless and inexplicable killings, but Lieutenant Dallas, who "would stand for the dead and the living," is not about to let that happen. When her research uncovers similar crimes in several cities that were dropped under mysterious circumstances, Dallas knows she's facing a killer cruel enough to prey on the weakest in society and powerful enough to conspire an extensive coverup. To complicate matters further, Dallas faces an equally troubling threat to her career when she's linked to the death of a fellow cop. Now she must fight to restore her good name as well as track down the killer.

In Conspiracy in Death, Roberts creates a futuristic world of evil that Eve Dallas negotiates through tough talk and brute force. While Robb crafts the crimes with great care, she assumes a familiarity with the characters that new readers will lack. But fans of the In Death series and newcomers alike will enjoy the thrill of the chase as Eve Dallas sets out to get her man.

Review: Rain by Amanda Sun

Title: Rain (Paper Gods #2)
Author: Amanda Sun
Published: 24 June 2014 by HarlequinTEEN Australia
Source: HarlequinTEEN Australia
Reviewed: Sapphired Dragon
Rating: ****

My Review:
On reflection I think I may have liked Rain more than I liked Ink, and I adored Ink.  Ink made me want to go visit Japan and learn Japanese but Rain had a different feel to it and I think this had to do with the writing reflecting the main character Katie Greene.

In Ink, Katie is a foreigner and a tourist anxiously waiting for the call from her grandparents to head back home to Canada. In Rain, having made her decision to stay, Katie while still technically a foreigner, and still making the the odd cultural mistake, feels more like a native fighting for her place there and so this is reflected in the writing and the feel.

Because, like Katie, we were now familiar with the Japan of the book and the main characters there in, we got to the heart of the story a lot quicker and were held in there to the end. Both the Kami story line and the romance between Katie and Tomo weaved together seamlessly and I found myself barely looking up from this tale until the end, which nearly caused my daughter and I to miss our stop of the train the other night.

I liked Katie and found her to be a sympathetic character so cared what happened to her. I liked her heart and her spirit though i do feel, she made some poor decisions throughout the book. I found it harder to get into Tomo's head. I wanted to but sometimes found it a little harder relate to his character.

Overall this is a quick and entertaining read. While sometimes I could see where certain story lines were leading, it didn't nonetheless spoil the the over all enjoyment I had in this instalment and I will anxiously be awaiting book 3!

I give this novel 4 stars.

My current read is Sabriel (Abhorsen #1) by Garth Nix and my two lines are from Page 216:

She was reluctant to enter the human tide. There was no Dead among them, as far as she could sense, but they must have some kind of accommodation or agreement with the Dead and that stank to her far more than sewage.

Ever since she was a tiny child, Sabriel has lived outside the walls of the Old Kingdom, away from the random power of Free Magic, and away from the Dead who won't stay dead. But now her father, the Mage Abhorsen, is missing, and to find him Sabriel must cross back into the nine Gates and Precincts of Death. Though her journey begins alone, she soon finds companions: Mogget, whose seemingly harmless feline form hides a powerful-and perhaps malevolent-spirit, and Touchstone, a younger Charter Mage imprisoned two centuries in a wooden ship-head, still trapped by painful memories. With threats on all sides and only each other to trust, the three must travel deep into the Old Kingdom, toward a battle against vicious Hands, Mordicants, and the evil Kerrigor

Blog Tour Stop & Giveaway: Review of Boneseeker by Brynn Chapman

Welcome to day's stop on the Boneseeker by Brynn Chapman Blog Tour presented by Month9Books and hosted by Chapter by Chapter.  Today's stop is a review as well as a chance to enter the great giveaway that is being run throughout this tour.

I originally signed up for the blog tour after reading the blurb and the premise for Boneseeker. I found the idea of the daughter of Sherlock Holmes intriguing and the promised story line sounded like it would make good reading with lots of adventure and romance.

I was not to be disappointed.

Ms Chapman takes her time to lead us into the story giving us a chance to get to know both main characters Arabella and Henry and to understand their back story together and to set us up for what’s to come. Once the action starts there is no going back, as it continues all the way to the end taking the reader along for the ride.

Ms Chapman manages to weave a story that is equal parts action, adventure and romance. Told in alternating chapters from both Arabella and Henry’s point of view, it nicely builds the romance whilst introducing different elements of the mystery, but by bit, to the reader in it till the end. The storyline itself was also really interesting in the elements that were weaved together, with a great mix of historical and fiction, and the how it all came together.

I really liked Ms Chapman’s take on what a child of Sherlock Holmes might be like. Arabella, having been brought up by Sherlock Holmes himself and inheriting a number of Holmes characteristics finds it hard to fit in to what London society thinks a woman of that time should be. She is incredibly intelligent, having earned herself a degree studying bones, however having grown up in a household largely devoid of emotion, she doesn’t understand how emotions can affect her or how to relate to the emotions of those around her. However, despite this, I still found my self able to relate and loved the emotional growth that she shows in the book with the help of those people who care for her around her.

Overall an enjoyable story that kept me entertained till the end. So if you are looking for an entertaining read with both romance, and action, secret societies and a great mystery to be solved, then I would definitely recommend Boneseeker. 
I give this story 3 ½ stars.
