Review: Ten Thousand Skies Above You by Claudia Gray

Title: Ten Thousand Skies Above You
Author: Claudia Gray
Published: 3 November 2015
Publisher: HarperTeen

Rating: *****

My Review:

Oh my goodness!  This book was so worth the wait! I do believe that this is even better that book 1.

In A Thousand pieces of you, we were introduced to Marguerite Caine, her parents and inventors of the Firebird technology and their grad students Paul and Theo looking for a man she believed to be her father's killer and uncovering inter dimensional conspiracy.

In Ten Thousand skies Above you, we see the affects that that conspiracy has had on them all with Theo sick from his exposure to NightThief and Paul splintered and scattered through a number of different dimensions.  Once again it is up to Marguerite, the perfect traveller, to travel to the different dimensions to save her world's version of Paul and Theo

This story flows seamlessly.  Whether it is from one dimension to another or one idea or scene to another, each world we visit and each version of the characters we see brings us further into the story and as Marguerite gets closer and closer to her goal, she ( and the reader uncover more and more questions.

I loved reading and seeing the different worlds that Marguerite visits.  Each of them were completely distinct and the world building so complete that I couldn't help but be completely immersed in the story from beginning to end.  Even better we got to revisit some of the worlds from book which, revisit some previous characters and see the impact Marguerite's original visit had had.

All in all this book ahad everything I could want in it;  Romance, action, interdimensional travel.  I was completely entranced from beginning to end and could not get enough.

I need book 3 now!

I give this book a definite 5 stars! :-)

About The Book:

Ever since she used the Firebird, her parents' invention, to cross into alternate dimensions, Marguerite has caught the attention of enemies who will do anything to force her into helping them dominate the multiverse—even hurting the people she loves. She resists until her boyfriend, Paul, is attacked and his consciousness scattered across multiple dimensions.

Marguerite has no choice but to search for each splinter of Paul’s soul. The hunt sends her racing through a war-torn San Francisco, the criminal underworld of New York City, and a glittering Paris where another Marguerite hides a shocking secret. Each world brings Marguerite one step closer to rescuing Paul. But with each trial she faces, she begins to question the destiny she thought they shared.

The second book in the Firebird trilogy, Ten Thousand Skies Above You features Claudia Gray’s lush, romantic language and smart, exciting action, and will have readers clamoring for the next book.

My current read is Ten Thousand Skies Above You by Claudia Gray and my three lines are from page 28 of 424

I open my mouth to tell Conley to stop playing games-

-before realising my parents did talk about this. They didn't have a name for it yet, but they'd glimpsed the danger. But we'd had no idea how close that danger really was.

Stacking The Shelves #33

Welcome to Stacking The Shelves! Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga Reviews and is a meme to share those books, both print and e-book, that have been added to your shelves in the last week/s.

Its been awesome both for receiving and for reading these last couple of  weeks  Firstly I got some awesome books for review from Bloomsbury,Allen and Unwin and Harper Collins YA ( see below).

Secondly I managed to read and review some awesome titles this week: Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews ( review here), Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine (review here) , Legacy of Kings (review to be posted on Sunday/Monday) and especially exciting for me, Queen of Shadows (Throne of Glass #4) by Sarah J Maas ( see my review here).  I am now reading Lair of Dreams by Libba Bray and expect to post that review on Tuesday/Wednesday, if not sooner.  After Lair of dreams, I plan to read Indidious and then The Summer Marked.

What are you reading this week?

Print-Arcs ( Many Many Thanks to Allen and Unwin, Bloomsbury Sydney and HarperCollins YA )

This fortnight was particularly exciting because I was lucky enough to be sent review ARCs/copies, of two books I have been waiting (not so patiently) for and dying to read.  I wouldn't be surprised if my squees of excitement were heard in the next suburb when I realised I had received these titless with the other awesome titles that accompanied it.  I have already read and reviewed a number of these titles as mentioned above  and now I am on to the next title, Lair of Dreams.

Queen of Shadows (Throne of Glass #4) by Sarah J Maas

Everyone Celaena Sardothien loves has been taken from her. But she's at last returned to the empire—for vengeance, to rescue her once-glorious kingdom, and to confront the shadows of her past . . .

Celaena’s epic journey has captured the hearts and imaginations of millions across the globe. This fourth volume will hold readers rapt as Celaena’s story builds to a passionate, agonizing crescendo that might just shatter her world.

What We Saw by Aaron Hartzler

Kate Weston can piece together most of the bash at John Doone’s house: shots with Stacey Stallard, Ben Cody taking her keys and getting her home early—the feeling that maybe he’s becoming more than just the guy she’s known since they were kids.

But when a picture of Stacey passed out over Deacon Mills’s shoulder appears online the next morning, Kate suspects she doesn’t have all the details. When Stacey levels charges against four of Kate’s classmates, the whole town erupts into controversy. Facts that can’t be ignored begin to surface, and every answer Kate finds leads back to the same question: Where was Ben when a terrible crime was committed?

This story—inspired by real events—from debut novelist Aaron Hartzler takes an unflinching look at silence as a form of complicity. It’s a book about the high stakes of speaking up, and the razor thin line between guilt and innocence that so often gets blurred, one hundred and forty characters at a time.

Won

On the 1st September,  @bloomsburypublishing , @sonias_liberry & @dymocks_sydney organised a launch party for the much anticipated Queen of Shadows by Sarah J Maas. It was a fun evening with people dressing up as their favourite character from the series and there were trivia questions about the series with books for prizes and a life sized Celaena Sardothien! I managed to win two books and purchased a third. It was a great celebration for the newest book in the Throne of Glass series and thank you to all who organised :-)

The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell

Feodora and her mother live in the snowbound woods of Russia, in a house full of food and fireplaces. Ten minutes away, in a ruined chapel, lives a pack of wolves. Feodora's mother is a wolf wilder, and Feo is a wolf wilder in training. A wolf wilder is the opposite of an animal tamer: it is a person who teaches tamed animals to fend for themselves, and to fight and to run, and to be wary of humans.

When the murderous hostility of the Russian Army threatens her very existence, Feo is left with no option but to go on the run. What follows is a story of revolution and adventure, about standing up for the things you love and fighting back. And, of course, wolves.

This Shattered World (Starbound #1) by Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner

The second installment in the epic Starbound trilogy introduces a new pair of star-crossed lovers on two sides of a bloody war.

Jubilee Chase and Flynn Cormac should never have met.

Lee is captain of the forces sent to Avon to crush the terraformed planet's rebellious colonists, but she has her own reasons for hating the insurgents.

Rebellion is in Flynn's blood. Terraforming corporations make their fortune by recruiting colonists to make the inhospitable planets livable, with the promise of a better life for their children. But they never fulfilled their promise on Avon, and decades later, Flynn is leading the rebellion.

Desperate for any advantage in a bloody and unrelentingly war, Flynn does the only thing that makes sense when he and Lee cross paths: he returns to base with her as prisoner. But as his fellow rebels prepare to execute this tough-talking girl with nerves of steel, Flynn makes another choice that will change him forever. He and Lee escape the rebel base together, caught between two sides of a senseless war.

Worlds divide, magic slays, and love lies in the second book of Josephine Angelini’s The Worldwalker Trilogy.

"You think I’m a monster, but my choices, as ruthless as they seem, are justified."

Lily is back in her own universe, and she's ready to start a new life with Rowan by her side. True, she almost died in the Pyre that fueled their escape from New Salem, and must hide her magic for the safety of everyone she cares about, but compared to fighting the Woven, the monstrous creatures inhabiting the alternate Salem, life is looking pretty good.

Unfortunately, Lillian, ruthless ruler of the 13 Cities, is not willing to let Lily go that easily. If she can’t persuade Lily to return to her world, she will force her to come back by doing away with the ones she loves.

Picking up right where Trial By Fire left off, Firewalker is another sexy, fast-paced, heartbreaking thrill ride from internationally bestselling author Josephine Angelini!

Waiting on Wednesday #11: Ten Thousand Skies above You (Firebird #2) by Claudia Gray

Welcome to Waiting on Wednesday!  Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly featured hosted by Breaking the Spine to spotlight the not yet released books that I wish were in my hot little hands right now.

This week I am waiting on Ten Thousand Skies Above You (Firebird #2) by Claudia Gray. I adored A Thousand Pieces of You which is one of my favourite reads so far this year so I am anxiously awaiting this next book.  There is something about alternate universes I have always found fascinating especially when the story is good and I love Claudia Gray's writing so this series really is kinda perfect for me.

Also I am a complete sucker for the cover! The cover for A Thousand Pieces of you was absolutely gorgeous but the cover for this book is...dare I say it? Ten Thousand times better again :-P :-P

I absolutely cannot wait to get this book!
