Waiting on Wednesday #15: Marked in Flesh (The Others #4) by Anne Bishop

Welcome to Waiting on Wednesday!  Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly featured hosted by Breaking the Spine to spotlight the not yet released books that I wish were in my hot little hands right now.

This week I am waiting on Marked in Flesh by Anne Bishop, the fourth book in the epic Others series.  This series is absolutely amazing and the last book left humanity on the precipice of being rendered extinct by the Others, owners of the land who have been angered by pockets of humans actions against them.

 

These books have just the right level of creepiness in its writing of the Others, the non humans that own the land the humans live on and most of the time see humans as food.  They also supply humans with all their resources to live ie wood , coal, crops, metals etc and the way Ms Bishop writes this series,  one is not always on human kind's side.

 

And I want to see more of Simon and Meg, their relationship and also the other characters of the courtyard.

 

This book is not out until March next year but this series is so good that already I am thinking about it and wondering how the next instalment of this tale is going to unfold.

Review: Vision In Silver (The Others #3) by Anne Bishop

My Review:

This book is truly as good as I expected it to be.  I have been waiting breathlessly for this book since I finished reading Murder of Crows in last year and literally devoured it in a matter of hours.

Ms bishop is a master story teller. There is so much contained in her books, so many threads being expertly weaved, so much character interaction and dialogue that is just perfection, so much story that you just lose your self in it from beginning to end and are left wanting even more and just the right amount of edginess to make this tale the masterpiece it is.

In some ways this is quite a complex tale, with a lot going on, this is in fact the third book in the The Others series and there is another two books slated after this one so we are thick in the action and the story with this tale. There are many different characters and story lines all going on at oince, each weaving its own little piece of the puzzle and yet despite this, never once did I feel over whelmed or confused. Each piece just enhances the tale and my enjoyment of it a little more.

I absolutely adore the way Anne Bishop writes her characters, both in this series and her Dark Jewels series. They all just leap off the page in their vividness and the tension and connection Ms Bishop creates between her characters through their dialogue and interactions is just, as mentioned before, perfection.

The whole premise that this story is based around where the others are the owners of the land and the predators and humans are just clever meat is both original and incredibly chilling and the way Ms Bishop writes the evolution and escalation of events in this book at just the right pace to give the most impact to the story. There is not much time frame from start to finish in this book and there is quite a bit of action, but even when there isn't 'action' to speak of there always something that keeps you in the story whether learning more about the Cassandra Sangue in general and the impact releasing them from their compound brings or more about Meg herself as she struggles with need to protect the courtyard by cutting and speaking prophesying and the real threat of the cut that could finally end her life.

If you haven't yet delved into this series, you should start now and this is one of the best, most satisfying series I have read in a long long time and I cannot wait for books 4 and 5.

Small week this week.  Concentrated on getting some reading, reviews and posts done rather than acquiring more books to add to my ever growing TBR list.  Don't get me wrong, I have great enjoyment adding to that TBR list as there are so many great titles coming up or out at the moment.  however took this week to concentrate on the list I already have :-)
