Review: Catacomb (Asylum #3) By Madeleine Roux

My Review:

Catacomb is a satisfying finale to the Asylum trilogy. The series has really evolved since the first book Asylum and this has only served to make the series better and more complete.

Where Asylum was spooky and mysterious, catacomb has quite a different feel to it, leaning more towards the intrigue and suspense with twists and turns that constantly turn the story on its head bring you to it's satisfying conclusion.

Whilst Asylum and Sanctum were both set in New Hampshire around Brookline Asylum, Catacomb is set in mostly in New Orleans and I think this was a smart move by author Madeleine Roux. It is still based around main character Dan Crawford and his friends Abby and Jordan but the way Ms Roux was able to extend the story whilst tying up all the previously loose ends through use of a new setting worked really well.

The only small downside to this change was that it took a little longer to set the bulk of the story up which was felt a wee bit in the middle. This was combatted somewhat with the characters adventures on the road however the once they hit New Orleans, the story was full steam, edge of your seat, twisty turny goodness until the end.

We learn more about Dan in this books and we find out more about his more immediate background outside his Brookline heritage which really help to round out his character. There didn't seem to be as much Abby and Jordan in this story but they were still there when needed and I think it brought Dan even more to the forefront.

Overall I really enjoyed this trilogy conclusion

A thrilling read. I give it 3 3/4 stars
