I kicked my stupid chair.  Three years of intensive treatment and I was still stark-raving mad.

Now, in remission, Rayna starts fresh at a new school, lands a new job, and desperately tries for normalcy. She ignores signs that she may be slipping into the world she has tried so hard to climb out of. But these days, it’s more than just hallucinations that keep Rayna up at night. My Review:

Gah! I can't get enough of this series. I love the story. I love the characters. And I especially love Sydney and Adrian.

I don't know what it is about Ms Mead's writing but no matter how long it has been since you read the last instalment, it's like you never left. Her characters and story welcome you back like family and right away you are back in the thick of things.

The first part of this instalment was heart wrenching with Sydney stuck in re-education and Adrian slowly coming apart and as a result sinking into his old ways. From there I had my heart in my my mouth wondering if they were going to find each other and the story kept there, on the edge of my seat, the entire time. Where it ended up, this is not the last instalment, left me asking more questions and greatly anticipating book 6.

What was great about this book, was we got a good mix of older characters that we know and fell in love with in Vampire academy along with the characters we have gotten to know in the bloodlines series. And then there was Adrian and Sydney. The more I read about them, the more I love them and am convinced they belong together. This increased my emotional investment, and hence my enjoyment, of this book.

I cannot wait until book 6 where hopefully Adrian and Sydney will finally get the happy ending they deserve :-)

I give this book 5 stars.

Review: Let's Get Lost by Adi Alsaid

Title: Let's Get Lost

My Review:

I decided to read "Let's get Lost" after seeing it many mentioned around the place. As I have mentioned before, I don't read a whole lot of YA contemporary but 4 strangers stories all connected by one girl name Leila seemed like and intriguing idea.

I have to say I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book and how quickly zoomed through it. When I started I was a little apprehensive, worried I would struggle to get it finished, having left it a little late to start reading it, but I needn't have worried, one moment I was reading the first page of Hudson's story and the next I finishing off Leila's story and closing the book, all done.

This book is essentially 5 stories in one. The first 4 sections devoted to a main character and story per section: Hudson, Bree, Elliott and Sonia with leila's story weaving around them, bringing their stories together and finishing the book off. Each of these characters had their own story, their own issues but they seem to all be at the same point of everything coming to a head when Leila crosses their paths and acts as their catalysts for change. I enjoyed each story for itself, enjoyed meeting and discovering the new characters and their stories, the journey that each story takes the reader on. I also loved that we got to find out Leila's story last and realising that though she was in each and every story previous, she remains mysterious and its not until the end that we find out more about her.

I found each og the individual stories fresh, different and honest, and the way Mr Alsaid brings them all together, I found myself wanting more and thinking about the characters even after their stories had passed, which to me is a sure sign of a good read.

If you want a YA contemporary novel that is fresh and honest and a fun, enjoyable read, then pick up this book. This books was a really nice surprise and I give it 4 stars :-)

My Review:
What an awesome conclusion to a series! I loved this book and was glued to the pages from beginning to end.

It had been about 6 months and a load of books since I had read book 2, Siege and Storm so I was worried I may not remember nenough to be able to enjoy it properly but I needn't have worried. Right from page 1, I was back in the story and invested in the characters and hanging on every word right through to the satisfying conclusion.

Ms Bardugo is a master story teller. This tale has everything you need for a complete story. Characters you can become invested in, a interesting and different story line with enough surprises along the way that the ending is not necessarily be seen until the author wants you to see it. Lastly the conclusion itself makes reading the entire three books well worth the effort.

I loved the main character Alina. I loved how strong she was and how we got to see her struggle with trying to work out the right path to take. We got to see her strengths as well as her weakness as Ms Bardugo did not give a clear straight path nor easily definable right and wrong choices so we got to see how Alina coped with the both making her decisions and then dealing with the consequences.

I also loved her relationships with the other characters, with The Darkling, with Nicolai and with Mal. Again, I loved that there were never clear choices and she had to deal with her hearty fighting her head fighting her soul whilst also wrestling how these decisions might also affect the rest of her world.

Over all, this is one of the best conclusions to a series I have read in a long time and whilst I am sad to be leaving these characters behind, I also leave satisfied with a conclusion that left these characters where they were meant to be.
I give this novel 5 stars.

About The Book:

The capital has fallen.

Now the nation's fate rests with a broken Sun Summoner, a disgraced tracker, and the shattered remnants of a once-great magical army.

Alina will have to forge new alliances and put aside old rivalries as she and Mal race to find the last of Morozova's amplifiers. But as she begins to unravel the Darkling's secrets, she reveals a past that will forever alter her understanding of the bond they share and the power she wields. The firebird is the one thing that stands between Ravka and destruction—and claiming it could cost Alina the very future she’s fighting for.

Welcome to  Stacking The Shelves!  Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga Reviews and is a meme to share those books, both print and e-book, that have been added to your shelves in the last week/s.

This week was to be a quiet week with more catching up on reading and getting reviews out but a number of request I have made over the past few weeks all were granted at once so it became a lot bigger than intended.

The flu also hit our house this week resulting in both myself and my daughter being unwell for most of the week.  Hence why this post is a little late this week. Also I am not entirely sure this post wanted to be written.  The amount of times I accidentally closed the tab with the open post in it and randomly lost links switching between compose and html, not to mention the other picky little html issues that seemed to be more fiddly and numerous than usual, was enough to drive a girl crazy...Still, its here now so I hope you enjoy it :-)

My current read is Drink Deep (Chicagoland Vampires #5) by Chloe Neill and my paragraph is from Page 101:

The pressure in the room suddenly thickened, and the smell became stronger, both cloyingly sweet and sour enough to make my mouth water. The room seemeed to sway back and forth. It wasn't like any other magic I'd felt. This was magic of a different caliber. Of a different age, maybe. Like magic that had been born in a different time. In an ancient era.

Clouds are brewing over Cadogan House, and recently turned vampire Merit can't tell if this is the darkness before the dawn or the calm before the storm. With the city in turmoil and the state threatening to pass a paranormal registration act, times haven't been this precarious for vampires since they came out of the closet.

Review: Take Me On (Pushing The Limits #4) by Katie McGarry

Title: Take Me On (Pushing The Limits #4)
Author: Katie McGarry
Published: 24 June 2014 by HarlequinTEEN Australia
Source: HarlequinTEEN Australia via Netgalley
Reviewed: Sapphired Dragon
Rating: ****

My Review:
Yet another read-in-a-sitting book from Katie McGarry. I flew through this book, gobbling up the story and the characters easily. Yet again Katie has given us real characters and a gritty real life story line, all the while linking it back to characters we have both met before and grown to love.

West is the brother of Rachel, whom we met in Crash into You. At the beginning of Take me On, West is just as arrogant as we remember him in Crash Into you but also plagued by guilt over Rachel's accident and just as affected by his family dynamics as Rachel had been. Haley's world has been crushed, her family have been made homeless and are living with a tyrant of an uncle and she is estranged emotionally from her family and the sport that she loves through trying to protect them.

What I love about Ms McGarry's characters, is that they are all very real and face very real problems. There is always an authentic feel to the characters which draws you in and makes you care what happens to them and want the best for them. These characters are no different. From the beginning I loved the chemistry between West and Haley. Right from the beginning it was there, and it only grew as they got to know each other better. I also loved the way both West and Haley developed throughout the story with Haley learning its not always selfish to do what is right for oneself and for West, discovering the who he actually was and the man he wanted to become.

The story itself is incredibly tight and keeps you in it from beginning to end. The authentic feel I mentioned before, also applies to the story in that it flows from beginning to end delivering and ending that's both different and satisfying.

We also got to revisit a few characters from earlier books, and see some more of their stories which lent itself to the main story without over shadowing it. There was a perfect balance of new and old to make this book attractive more so as part of the series but also as a stand alone.

I am so glad that Ms McGarry is continuing this series, in this world   I don't normally read a lot of contemporary YA, but this is a series i will come back to, over and over again.  I thoroughly recommend this book and this series.

I give this novel 4 stars.

About The Book:

Acclaimed author Katie McGarry returns with the knockout new story of two high school seniors who are about to learn what winning really means.

Champion kickboxer Haley swore she'd never set foot in the ring again after one tragic night. But then the guy she can't stop thinking about accepts a mixed martial arts fight in her honor. Suddenly, Haley has to train West Young. All attitude, West is everything Haley promised herself she'd stay away from. Yet he won't last five seconds in the ring without her help.

West is keeping a big secret from Haley. About who he really is. But helping her-fighting for her-is a shot at redemption. Especially since it's his fault his family is falling apart. He can't change the past, but maybe he can change Haley's future.

Hayley and West have agreed to keep their relationship strictly in the ring. But as an unexpected bond forms between them and attraction mocks their best intentions, they'll face their darkest fears and discover love is worth fighting for.

I ignored the twist my heart gave. This was what I wanted.

The capital has fallen.

The Darkling rules Ravka from his shadow throne.

Now the nation's fate rests with a broken Sun Summoner, a disgraced tracker, and the shattered remnants of a once-great magical army.

Deep in an ancient network of tunnels and caverns, a weakened Alina must submit to the dubious protection of the Apparat and the zealots who worship her as a Saint. Yet her plans lie elsewhere, with the hunt for the elusive firebird and the hope that an outlaw prince still survives.

They come up with the perfect way to kill him—a hypothetical murder, of course. It’s just a joke...until Nolan turns up dead, in exactly the way they planned. Only, they didn’t do it. Illusions of Fate  by Kiersten White
Goodreads | Book Depository
Downton Abbey meets Cassandra Clare in this lush, romantic fantasy from New York Times bestselling author Kiersten White.

“I did my best to keep you from crossing paths with this world. And I shall do my best to protect you now that you have.”

Jessamin has been an outcast since she moved from her island home of Melei to the dreary country of Albion. Everything changes when she meets Finn, a gorgeous, enigmatic young lord who introduces her to the secret world of Albion’s nobility, a world that has everything Jessamin doesn’t—power, money, status…and magic. But Finn has secrets of his own, dangerous secrets that the vicious Lord Downpike will do anything to possess. Unless Jessamin, armed only with her wits and her determination, can stop him.

Kiersten White captured readers’ hearts with her New York Times bestselling Paranormalcy trilogy and its effortless mix of magic and real-world teenage humor. She returns to that winning combination of wit, charm, and enchantment in Illusions of Fate, a sparkling and romantic new novel perfect for fans of Cassandra Clare, The Madman’s Daughter, and Libba Bray
