In the City of Lights, two star-crossed lovers battle a fate that is destined to tear them apart again and again for eternity.

When Kate Mercier's parents die in a tragic car accident, she leaves her life--and memories--behind to live with her grandparents in Paris. For Kate, the only way to survive her pain is escaping into the world of books and Parisian art. Until she meets Vincent.

Mysterious, charming, and devastatingly handsome, Vincent threatens to melt the ice around Kate's guarded heart with just his smile. As she begins to fall in love with Vincent, Kate discovers that he's a revenant--an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save the lives of others. Vincent and those like him are bound in a centuries-old war against a group of evil revenants who exist only to murder and betray. Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she may never be safe again.

Review:

This book has been sitting on my TBR shelf (literally) for over a year now. I almost picked it up a number of times but always had something else I wanted or needed to read first. I finally picked up it up on Sunday night because I was in need of a change of pace from what I had been reading and after reading just a page knew I was in for a treat.

The way Ms Plum writes is easy to read and friendly and the story engaging enough that before you know it you are are half way through the book and ready to finish it within a matter of hours.

I liked the characters. The way the characters were painted in tis book left me with a clear image in my head of what i though they should look like and how they would act. I found Kate likeable and endearing and wanted a Vincent of my very own :-)

The setting of Paris is the ideal Romantic setting and again, Ms Plum's writing painted me a picture of a glorious city.

However I need to go back to the story. It was fresh and original and I look forward to reading the next instalment, which I already have on my kindle. Hopefully it won't take me so long to get to it this time.

I give this book 4 stars

Blog Tour: daynight by Megan Thomason Review & Giveaway

Tour Schedule

daynight by Megan Thomason

Meet The Second Chance Institute (SCI): Earth’s benevolent non-profit by day, Thera’s totalitarian regime by night. Their motto: Because Everyone Deserves a Second Chance™. Reality: the SCI subjects Second Chancers to strict controls and politically motivated science experiments like Cleaving—forced lifetime union between two people who have sex.

Meet Kira Donovan. Fiercely loyal, overly optimistic, and ensnared by the promise of a full-ride college scholarship, Kira signs the SCI Recruit contract to escape memories of a tragedy that left her boyfriend and friends dead.

Meet Blake Sundry. Bitter about being raised in Exile and his mother’s death, Blake’s been trained to infiltrate and destroy the SCI. Current barrier to success? His Recruit partner—Miss Goody Two Shoes Kira Donovan.

Meet Ethan Darcton. Born with a defective heart and resulting inferiority complex, Ethan’s forced to do his SCI elite family’s bidding. Cleave-worthy Kira Donovan catches his eye, but the presiding powers give defect-free Blake Sundry first dibs.

Full of competing agendas, romantic entanglements, humor, twists and turns, daynight is Megan Thomason’s debut young adult dystopian novel and first in the daynight series.

Review:

I hadn't heard too much about this book when I saw the sign up for the blog tour but it sounded interesting so I figured I would give it a try. The first two pages were enough to convince me I had made a good move and I finished the rest of the novel throughout the course of the day, first on kindle then when that died, my ipad and then when that battery went also on my phone.  I was determined to finish the book and see how it would all turn out.

The story itself was quite original.  The idea of Earth and Thera, day and night, the second chancers, it intrigued me from the beginning and while I saw some twists coming, I enjoyed where the story took me and they way that it did it.

The story is told from three different view points, Kira, Blake and Ethan's and this helped give the story a rounding out that made the story ultimately more satisfying.

I loved the subtle layers that Ms Thomason adds to this tale and the way they were artfully revealed.

I am glad I took a chance on this novel and was extremely to surprised to find out that this is a self published novel as it was one of the most interesting and original tales I have read in a while.  This book finished in a way that made it seem like there could be a book two to follow.  I definitely hope this is the case as I would love for this great idea and story to continue.

I give this 4 stars!

Slow week for reading and reviewing this week between the not well baby and job interviews/training days on this week.  Thankfully i had the majority of the week's posts already scheduled.

May have gone just a wee bit crazy at the library though.  I visited one of my library's other branches and found a few titles by one particular author that I have been meaning to read for a while along with a few other interesting titles or ones i had heard good things about.

I am also awaiting some pre-orders that finally came out this week so hopefully they will arrive in my mailbox over the next few weeks.

Library:

Picked up a couple of reserved books and found Crewel available so borrowed this earlier in the week.

Twice Bitten (Chicagoville Vampires #3) by Chloe Neill

Drink Deep (Chicagoville Vampires #5) by Chloe Neill

Then on Friday I visited a different branch of my local library while taking my daughter to the pool and remembered there were a few Mercedes Lackey Tales of the 500 Kingdoms books I have been meaning to read  and saw some other interesting ones along the way.

Melody Burning by Whitley Strieber

Blood Witch & Dark Magick (Sweep Omnibus Editions #3-4) (Chicagoville Vampires #3) by Cate Tiernan

Risa Jones is as extraordinary as her heritage. Born from a lab-enhanced clone mother and an Aedh father, she can not only talk to the souls of the dying and the dead, but she can see the reapers and walk the gray fields that divide this world from the next.

They are skill she rarely uses, however, preferring to concentrate on the business she shares with her two best friends. But when her mother asks her to help the parents of a little girl locked in a coma, she reluctantly agrees. What she discovers scares the hell out of her. Because the little girl’s soul no longer resides in her body, and it wasn’t death and the reapers that took her.

Someone had ripped her soul from her flesh.

As it turns out, a creature consuming the souls of the innocent–and not so innocent–is the least of her problems.

Because someone wants to rip open the gates that divided hell from earth, and Risa is a key component in their plans.

And the only person standing between her and disaster is a reaper who isn’t exactly on her side.
