Teaser Tuesday #65: The Dark World by Cara Lynn Schultz

My current read is The Dark World by Cara Lynn Shultz and my two lines are from Page 94:

I stared down at my fingers as they mashed together in my lap, the news of how I narrowly avoided being a wandering soul, lost in a nightmarish dimension, sinking in and, not surprisingly, make me nauseous. Logan plunked a generic can of lemon-lime soda down in front of me, and i jumped back in surprise.

Paige Kelly is used to weird--in fact, she probably corners the market on weird, considering that her best friend, Dottie, has been dead since the 1950s. But when a fire demon attacks Paige in detention, she has to admit that things have gotten out of her league. Luckily, the cute new boy in school, Logan Bradley, is a practiced demon slayer-and he isn't fazed by Paige's propensity to chat with the dead. Suddenly, Paige is smack in the middle of a centuries-old battle between warlocks and demons, learning to fight with a magic sword so that she can defend herself. And if she makes one wrong move, she'll be pulled into the Dark World, an alternate version of our world that's overrun by demons-and she might never make it home.

Review:
I wasn't really sure what to expect when i started this novel. I has heard mostly good things and read the synopsis but when it started, I worried a little it miht turn out not much more than a Gossip Girl type story.

However I was pleasantly surprised instead to find a charming sweet story with that dash of supernatural in it that makes a story, at least in my opinion, so much more.

I guess having watched tv shows like Gossip Girl, it made may of Shultz's descriptions come to life even more and her descriptions made feel like i knew the locations well.  However it was the characters that really made the story.

I liked the main character Emma, she was smart, witty and strong and Brendan made we want to swoon alongside Emma and the rest of the girls at Vincent Academy. The only characters I couldn't really get a handle on were Kristin and Anthony.  Though I think was more to do with me necessarily than the writing. 

Overall though this was a charming, smart, sweet story that had me pretty much hooked till the end.  I definitely enjoyed it and thought it well worth 4 stars.

Summer Exchange :

I participated in the Awesome Summer exchange held by Ruby at Ruby's Reads which was kind of like a summer secret santa where everyone who participates is allocated another participant whom they buy a book of that participant's wishlist and in return receive a book from their wish list from someone else.


I sent a gift to the participant i was given around the end of June and it arrived today.
