Stacking the Shelves #5

Welcome to  Stacking The Shelves!  Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga Reviews and is a meme to share those books, both print and e-book, that have been added to your shelves in the last week/s.

Got some awesome books this week and also got a lot of reading done.  Now just need to start writing some of the reviews that are due.  Also very excited this week as I will be hosting Claudia Gray on my blog as part of the Authors ARE Rockstars tour later in the week.  So don't forget to check back on Wednesday and catch the interview, it will be well worth it! :-).

For Review (via Netgalley):

Witchstruck (The Tudor Witch Trilogy #1) by Victoria Lamb

If she sink, she be no witch and shall be drowned.

If she float, she be a witch and must be hanged.

Meg Lytton has always known she is different—that she bears a dark and powerful gift. But in 1554 England, in service at Woodstock Palace to the banished Tudor princess Elizabeth, it has never been more dangerous to practise witchcraft. Meg knows she must guard her secret carefully from the many suspicious eyes watching over the princess and her companions. One wrong move could mean her life, and the life of Elizabeth, rightful heir to the English throne.

With witchfinder Marcus Dent determined to have Meg's hand in marriage, and Meg's own family conspiring against the English queen, there isn't a single person Meg can trust. Certainly not the enigmatic young Spanish priest Alejandro de Castillo, despite her undeniable feelings. But when all the world turns against her, Meg must open her heart to a dangerous choice.

The Secret Circle meets The Other Boleyn Girl in Witchstruck, the first book of the magical Tudor Witch trilogy

The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. For Review(via HarlequinTeen Australia):

Was so excited to receive this ARC!  Pushing the Limits was one of my favourite reads of last year so I cannot wait to read this one :-)

Dare You To (Pushing the Limits #2) by Katie McGarry

"I dare you..."

If anyone knew the truth about Beth Risk's home life, they'd send her mother to jail and seventeen-year-old Beth who knows where. So she protects her mom at all costs. Until the day her uncle swoops in and forces Beth to choose between her mom's freedom and her own happiness. That's how Beth finds herself living with an aunt who doesn't want her and going to a school that doesn't understand her. At all. Except for the one guy who shouldn't get her, but does....

Ryan Stone is the town golden boy, a popular baseball star jock-with secrets he can't tell anyone. Not even the friends he shares everything with, including the constant dares to do crazy things. The craziest? Asking out the Skater girl who couldn't be less interested in him.

But what begins as a dare becomes an intense attraction neither Ryan nor Beth expected. Suddenly, the boy with the flawless image risks his dreams-and his life-for the girl he loves, and the girl who won't let anyone get too close is daring herself to want it all....

What's left of Me (The Hybrid Chronicles #1) by Kat Zhang
Goodreads | Book Depository

I should not exist. But I do.

Eva and Addie started out the same way as everyone else—two souls woven together in one body, taking turns controlling their movements as they learned how to walk, how to sing, how to dance. But as they grew, so did the worried whispers. Why aren’t they settling? Why isn’t one of them fading? The doctors ran tests, the neighbors shied away, and their parents begged for more time. Finally Addie was pronounced healthy and Eva was declared gone. Except, she wasn’t . . .

For the past three years, Eva has clung to the remnants of her life. Only Addie knows she’s still there, trapped inside their body. Then one day, they discover there may be a way for Eva to move again. The risks are unimaginable-hybrids are considered a threat to society, so if they are caught, Addie and Eva will be locked away with the others. And yet . . . for a chance to smile, to twirl, to speak, Eva will do anything.

Kylie Chan Heaven to Wudang Book signing & Giveaway

On Friday 24th June, the lovely Kylie Chan, author of Dark Heavens and Journey to Wudang trilogies came to Infinitas books in Parramatta to sign copies of her latest book, Heaven to Wudang.

Heaven to Wudang
is the third book in the Journey to Wudang trilogy and continues the story of Emma, Simone and Xuan Wu which began in Book 1 of Dark Heavens trilogy : White Tiger as they wait for Xuan Wu to return and in the mean time chase down Kitty Kwok and the demon she is allied with.

I have to say.  This was a great thrill for me as this is one of my favourite series and in fact my blog name and user name (Sapphired Dragon) was actually heavily influenced by this series.  I was really into Chinese mythology after reading the first trilogy and wanted something that sounded all mythological but still represented me.  So I took the birthstone
of my birth month September (Sapphire) and the year in Chinese calendar I was born ( year of the Dragon) and Voila! Realmof the Sapphired Dragon was born :)

Even though the signing was on a Friday, when I arrived at the book shop just before two, there was alreay a number of people already there with their arm load of books ready to be signed and more kept arriving.  There were people ducking in during their lunch break, others had taken annual leave days, sick days or were on holidays from uni.  Ms Chan had also indicated on her website that as she didn't make it down the East Coast all that often,
readers were allowed to bring all their Kylie Chan books to be signed so people literally did have their arms full of all six books to be signed and some not only got the inside front page signed but many also chose to get the covers signed as well which is something I have never seen before.

Speaking of things seen, I just need to mention that pencil case Ms Chan brought to the signing was a tardis pencil case which is pretty cool all by itself.

I too, joined the people getting all six of my books signed (though I didn't get the covers signed) and while we were waiting Ms Chan passed around drawings of the characters which may be used in the graphic novel and confirmed that yes there is indeed one more trilogy to go in the story.

All in all it was an awesome day and I would like to thank Kylie Chan for giving up her time to come and sign fans' books and to Infinitas book shop for organising the signing.

I will also be posting a review once I finish reading my copy in the next few days.
